Our Family

Hello! My name is David Bednar. I am a dad to two wonderful kids, Randi and Collins. I was born in Oregon and moved to Durham in 2007. I went to graduate school at NC State University and studied entomology. During my graduate career, I learned a lot about insects and how they live. After graduating, I've been lucky enough to have a career where I get to continue learning about insects working for the Department of Agriculture. Though I have been spending nearly half my life learning about insects, it wasn't until the kids and I bought this land that I started thinking about and learning FROM the insects. You can learn more about what we do here, but the more I learn about everything, the more it changes how I view the world and try to live. I'm interested in building community and leaving this world better than I found it. I already know my kids and this farm are a big part of working to create the world I want for them.
